Steed inherits from an unknown person a dagger which seems to be cursed; it kills everyone who owns the dagger. Nevertheless there are a lot of people doing their best to steal the knife from Steed. It appears the dagger is a key to a great fortune; a huge pearl. Via notary Dickens Steed finds out who left him the dagger.
