At Marroon Barracks, Captain Trench, of the Highland Guards, commands the execution by firing squad of Corporal Craig. After the execution, Steed meets Private jessop, a member of the firing squad, who tells him that the regimental post-mortem on Craig wil show that he died as a result of an accident while cleaning his rifle. Steed tells Cathy that he knows Craig was killed by bullets from three different rifles.
